Very beautiful. The sounds of the ice and water shifting must be amazing.

@ARA Not to much on that lake it's pretty shallow and the ice was about 2 1/2 feet thick so not much noise.
Some of the bigger lakes out toward Lake Michigan you get really noisy ice, I love taking people out on Torch or Skegmog just to see their face when the ice shifts and does that weird squeezing sound.
Then you tell them the water under the ice is hundreds of feet deep and the water is to cold for a body to float and they get this almost panicked look.
That lake is world class Pike fishing but I didn't catch anything other than a couple of perch and bluegill. Couple of summers ago I caught a 47" pike right about where I'm standing taking that 2nd pic.

@Adherent of Lady Columbia That's the Northern Lower on the Lake Michigan side so the weather is pretty much as bad as anywhere in the UP. My parents place is in a snow belt where the lake effect snow falls for days on end and a couple of feet from a storm is normal.
No matter where you go north of Saginaw it's a woodsman's dream.

My little plot of dirt is down in a valley along a river in a cedar swamp. Late deer season I can always get a freezer full because the snow pushes the deer out of the high country right down to me. The river has some good fishing or I can walk to 2 different trout streams within a mile. Either way down the river and you get to big lakes full of brown trout, lake trout, pike, musky, walleye, bass and a shit ton of pan and bait fish.
Thanks to rec weed passing the local economy is starting to come back and I'm planning on going home for good this year, had my fill of chasing work and traveling.

My oldest boy has managed to get buy pretty good because of stuff he inherited on his mom's side and working my orchard. He didn't get the wanderlust as bad as I did. We grow an heirloom golden delicious apple that get to the size of softballs.

I tell a lot of these young guys that want away from the lefties and cultural enrichment to go up that way, buy some cheap land and farm and log. Have a big family for lots of hands and live.
When you head up that way talk to a local mill and see if they will mill and kiln dry your lumber for a cut of the lumber. Take it off of your own land and find storm blow down timber on the state land. Build your house and barn for pennies on the dollar by doing the work.
